Managing aspects of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been included in
the 2006 revision of the Quality & Outcomes Framework for the UK's
primary care. This brings a whole new learning curve for most GPs. An
essential component of assessing our patients is the calculation of the
estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using the 4-variable MDRD
equation (Levey & colleagues, Ann Intern Med 1999, 461-470).
eGFRCalc by Bennett Quinn dynamically calculates the eGFR and the CKD grading as the variables are altered. The optional printable report indicates the Read codes that should be added to the patient's electronic record if the responsble clinician agrees with the calculated assessment.
eGFRCalc is shareware which means you can download it, install it on your practice's computers and see if you value the role it will plays in the care & management of your patients. If you want to keep using eGFRCalc you must register. Registration costs £25 - this is a "practice" registration which means that you can use it on all your practice's computers.
